FAB Wellness Party - Tim’s Story
Last week the Family Advisory Board held their summer wellness party. FAB are a group of parents who have come together over the last nine years to speak about their experiences of social work and Family Group Conference, living in Camden and the community. Tim Fisher spoke about how inspired he was that their party focussed on the wellness of others. It wasn’t just a fun day. It functioned as a celebration of family and friendship; the aim was to connect with attendees and to check in. Hina and Kar-Man, organisers par-excellence, picked up Tim and his children at Kings Cross train station. They had commandeered a shopping trolley and filled it with refreshments for the wellness party, handing out some biscuits to some locals as they went. Tim thought it a humorous beginning to the day as they rattled across Euston Road. The event itself was brimming with life, with upbeat music and activities for all ages. There was plenty of food and chat. Then Faye Hamilton led everyone in a generous session of affirmations, asking everyone to write down a message to their childhood selves. Tim felt they connected to each other and their past selves as they shared the messages around the circle. Everyone left feeling a little closer to the other attendees. The party also worked as a wonderful advertisement for FAB and FGC, with several enquiries about each. Tim was so proud to see how FAB has blossomed from a small coffee morning to a dynamic group, led by parents themselves. It was a special day for him, especially playing ping pong with his children, which was a particular highlight. The next FAB meeting is in September, a regular coffee morning, parents and people who work with the community in Camden are welcome.
